Talisman Miniatures!

I don't talk about board games here as its not really my hobby focus but as this both concerns miniatures and is Games Workshop related its on topic. I really like this game as Talisman is an easy sell to both my non-gamer and closet gamer friends as an alternative to the other horrible board games I occasionally get roped into when we have guests over. Its simple and fun and a good nights entertainment. FFG picked the license and re-did the new edition much for the better. The new rules are clear and concise and it closes some loopholes and misunderstands in the 1st print ruleset. I was surprised other than a few previews of single models, I couldn't find pictures of the new miniatures, they look quite nice. Here they are, you know I am painting these guys up as soon I can get them on the bench!.

front- Thief, Troll, Assassin, Ghoul)

Just a heads-up- Assuming it's the same plastic as the other FFG games, primer behaves strangely on it... I started painting my set of minis for the Doom boardgame, and the primer is STILL sticky, several years later. With the 'green army men' style plastic, soaking it in vinegar before painting seems to prep the surface nicely. I haven't tried it yet on the Doom figs. (Apart from the stickiness, the Doom figures painted up well, paint seems to work over the sticky primer, but I can't imagine it's an ideal surface for extended handling)

Thanks Bill!, good tip...I haven't heard the vinegar thing yet...overnight soak?..I'll definitely test paint a toad first!

Yeah, throw them in a bowl of vinegar overnight, rinse them off in the morning, and throw some primer at them. (Or spray it, if you don't want to dent the can)

These look cool. I was a bit surprized that FFG managed to get the license from GW, but I guess stranger things have happened.

I have played Billy's copy Doom (also FFG, also the same type of plastic minis) and can attest to the "stickyness" of the figs. Overnight soak is probably the best bet.

Whats the total play time on Talisman anyway, about an hour?
heh.

Average game is about 3 hours..we definitely had some 4+ hour ones. Talisman is all about luck..if some rolled perfectly I guess you could get thru in a hour...but in my experience we always assume its going to be at least 3.

The one hour comment, was really a joke. The first time I sat down to play Warhammer (the board game), Billy kept telling us it only took about 1 1/2 hours :P Heck setup alone took 30 min...

It's no Twilight Imperium, last time I played that with Felix and a bunch of guys it was like 8 hours and I left before it was over..(but I was dead)..

You can use denatured alcohol, which you can get cheap at the hardware store. This will strip off the mold release residue in no time, like less than 5 minutes. I have done this with many FFG games like Descent and BattleLore.

Forgot to say... the denatured alcohol will not damage the figures in any way. :-)

FFG got the license for all of the Black Industries stuff from GW when they closed BI. They're also publishing Dark Heresy and WHFRP. (And Bill is talking about the World of Warcraft board game)
