The Winds of Magic are tumultuous. Drawn by Morrslieb, they are prone to rise from a strong gale into a howling tempest. And when they do, no kingdom or realm is safe. Monsters awaken from their slumber and are summoned from their lairs at the bidding of sorcerous masters. Armies assemble, ready to defend their borders or seize the opportunity to gain limitless power. It is in these desperate times tenuous pacts between wizards and creatures of darkness are sealed to create alliances never thought possible...

Wow, 3 editions since the last magic-specific expansion... Back then, we just didn't use wizards because none of us could afford to buy the damned box!
Seriously, though, depending on how they structure access to the new stuff, this could do a lot for pick-up games. Currently armies with access to the core lores (thinking in particular of Lizardmen, High Elves, and Empire for 8-lore access) have a bit of a leg up, magically. There's something to be said for the "reliability" of older army book lores, but it's hard to match the explosive power of the new stuff. Give those older mages access to some new tricks, and throw some of the armies that don't have Hellpit Abominations, etc, a big nasty of their own, and things get a lot more interesting.
I'm more concerned with people that already have ass ripping monsters, now being able to turn alltheir wizards into an ass ripping monster, as well. Who knows maybe GW figured how to mesh it 8th edition and balance it all out???. ROFLMAO.
seriously unless you play in tournaments..it doesnt matter..if all you care about it big dumb fun, this could probably be great..I am sure there are cool models in there and you got to love new terrain..although I hope they tone it down a bit, the last few terrain pieces have way to much Warhammer bling on them!.
WFB turning into Warmachine (Hordes, to be more specific)?
Big magic everywhere and every new army book getting an uber monster - really makes being a Dwarf player the ultimate in sadomasochism doesn't it.
I thought the days of Hero/Monster Hammer ended with 5th Edition
Nah, I like it when people take stacks of wizards- it makes it hurt them all the more when you shut down the magic phase. With a hard cap of 12PD before channeling, it's hard to support more than a couple anyway. And monsters aren't so bad- cannons are laser-accurate these days, and it's nearly impossible to hide a big critter with TLOS. Dwarfs have it pretty good right now.
Maybe I just read it wrong, but I thought the cap on PD was 12, even including channeling. Either way, Conspyre is right, with the cap on PD taking more than 1 lord level wizard is a waste. Not only will you not be able to effectively cast all your spells, but they are expensive, and you can get hosed on double 1's.
I would not doubt if the new models were just the lore of beasts models. perhaps one big kit to make them all? *crosses fingers*
